      The Kochbrunnen fountain is one of Wiesbaden's so-called primary springs. Only a small portion of the water feeds the drinking fountain in the Kochbrunnen pavilion and the Kochbrunnenspringer.

      The majority of the thermal water is piped to the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme spa, where it undergoes pre-treatment for use in the thermal baths. The Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme and the Aukammtal thermal baths are recognized spas thanks to their thermal water.

        The Kochbrunnen (Cooking Fountain) in Wiesbaden is the city's most famous and hottest thermal spring.

        This sodium chloride thermal spring was the center of Wiesbaden's drinking cure in the 19th century. Its name refers to its water temperature of over 66 °C (155 °F).

        The spring on Kochbrunnenplatz (Cooking Fountain Square) was first mentioned in 1366 as Bryeborn and in 1536 as Syedenborn, but it appears to have been known as early as Roman times.

        The Kochbrunnen is an artesian spring and rises from a depth of 2,000 meters (6,000 feet).

        Today, it is tapped by a 43-meter (130-foot) borehole.

        The yield is approximately 360 liters (14 gallons) per minute.

        The Kochbrunnen water has a faint odor of hydrogen sulfide and a strong salty taste.

        It is clear, but becomes cloudy and yellowish after 24 hours of exposure to air.

        The Kochbrunnen (Cooking Fountain) is one of Wiesbaden's primary springs.

        The majority is piped to the treatment plant at the Kaiser-Friedrich-Bad (Emperor Frederick Baths).
