The origin of the ponds goes back to the turn of the century around the year 1900. The ponds owned by von Boyneburgk were used for fishing until the 1960s. Gradual silting up created biotopes with a variety of animal and plant species that are protected, among other things, on the "Red List of Species". With a view to preserving this habitat, extensive work was carried out in 1996 on part of these ponds for renewed fishing use. This was an exemplary contribution by environmentalists and nature conservationists in the harmony of nature and people, fishing and meeting place for disabled and non-disabled citizens in the scenic Borntal.
