A bit of trivia, just for fun.
In 1974 (as far as I remember) the altarpiece, which wasn't even particularly valuable, was stolen. The church has been closed since then 😢
At the back (towards the savings bank), where the somewhat shabby green area is now, was the sexton's garden. Beautifully green, with trees and bushes. I remember delicious raspberries!
I always hope that they will turn this once beautiful place into something nice again 😳
By the way, there was never a cemetery here. It was always on the vineyard (the current "Old Cemetery"), and there was also the cemetery chapel there until 1970 (where the flower shop is now)

The mighty St. Nicolai Church from the Protestant Baroque was built between 1733 and 1744 and is located on Gifhorn Market Square. Inside the church, the richly decorated pulpit altar and the well-known Christian Father organ from 1748 are worth mentioning.
