It can be documented that the post office in Mühlhausen was housed in 1802 in the "Zellaschen Klosterhof" at Holzstrasse 1 / corner of Regensgasse. The house was built in 1660 and was bought from the Zella monastery by postmaster Ludwig Gottfried Arends. Even before that, the post office is said to have been permanently housed here. On August 5th, 1802, the free imperial city of Mühlhausen became the property of the Kingdom of Prussia. The Prussian state demanded that all Thurn und Taxische Postanstalten be dissolved from May 1st, 1803. The new post office, the “Royal Post Office”, was housed from 1802 to 1806 in the building at 6th Marienkirche / corner of Holzstrasse. It was equipped with the Prussian coat of arms and was provided with a sentry box by a one-man guard. From 1806 to 1814 the post office used the building at 5 Marienkirche / corner of Regensgasse.

In 1577/78 the predecessor building to the meat house was built using the broken stones from St. John's Church. The ground floor housed the meat banks. On the upper floor there was a hall for the cloth merchants' fair stalls. Theater was also performed here. From 1880 to 1882, the new “Imperial Post and Telegraph Office” was built on the site of the former butchers’ guild house. In 1883 the new post office building on the Obermarkt was put into operation. The building remained as a post office until modern times.
