Parking and starting point for hikes in the plateau Paul da Serra. Also well suited as a rest stop for hikes to and around the Bica da Cana. There are public toilets in the refuge and numerous benches and tables are set up on the adjoining grounds. A small turret above the Casa de Abrigo offers a great view of the plateau and Sao Vicente.

Do yourself a favor and go back the direct route. The last part of the route (between waypoints 7 and 8) is currently NOT passable and leads through the total thicket! The path is so overgrown and full of very, very prickly plants. We ended up with scratched arms, legs & faces and our clothes were also damaged by the spikes. It's a shame, because the way there was really, really nice!
