The shore path leads around the Weißenstädter See, an easily walkable four-kilometer circular route. Since the surface is completely asphalted and the course is almost at ground level, it is one of the most popular walking paths in the Fichtelgebirge. It is also ideal for wheelchair users.

The Weißenstädter See is a 48 hectare recreational lake west of Weißenstadt, in the saddle between Schneeberg and Waldstein.

Completed in 1976.

Owned by the town of Weißenstadt.

It is located in the Eger and Hirtenbach catchment area.

Nominal reservoir height 613 m above sea level.

Maximum reservoir depth 5 m.

To realize the project, an earth dam with a clay core of approx. 6 m high and 5.5 m crown width was built over a length of 1.5 km. Concrete was only installed in the outflow area. Normal drainage occurs through an adjustable Weihermönch, flood drainage through adjustable gates.

Leisure activities: swimming, sailing, surfing, boating, fishing; parking spaces in the south and north, a 4 km long circular path leads around the lake. There is a bird sanctuary in the northern area.

By 1820 there was already an artificial reservoir at this location, the creation of which dates back to around 1350. In 1476 it was mentioned in the Weißenstadt town charter, and in 1499 in the land register of the Sechsämter as a "large pond" with 150 daywork. It belonged to the sovereign and served as the "main pond" for fish farming. The fish were harvested every two years at the end of October, and the draining took a week. A messenger on horseback had to inform the towns along the Eger about the expected large surge of water.
