It is based on the ground plan of the nearby ruins of the Dunes Abbey. They put it upright and then gave it that remarkable name.
The French artist couple Anne and Patrick Poirier are fascinated by the past, by ruins and historical and archaeological sites. For Beaufort they were inspired by the church of the former Abbey of Our Lady Ten Duinen in Koksijde. All that remains of the abbey, which is located a few kilometers away, is a ruin complex with an associated interesting abbey museum. As a starting point for the steel construction, they placed the floor plan of the disappeared church vertically. The installation now forms an imposing beacon along the coastline.
