The Spanish ambassador originally used the building. His heirs bequeathed it to the Catholic community. The castle pharmacist later bought the house from them and set up the castle pharmacy here. After a change of ownership, the castle pharmacy was closed down and the house was converted into apartments.

The furnishings of the Glückstadt town pharmacy on Deichstraße date back to 1830. There were once herbs and jars with medicines on numerous shelves. The smell of the medicines was stored in the wood, and so the room still exudes a pleasant, medicinal scent to this day. After more than 100 years of constant use, the facility ended up in the Detlefsen Museum and fills up an entire room here. For the visitor there is information about medicinal plants and their use as well as earlier medical devices. And if you want to know how it was even earlier, e.g. in the 17th century. who was appointed to medicine in Glückstadt, we recommend the historical novel by Edith Beleites "Die Midwife von Glückstadt", published in 2003.
