    Sass de Stria is a 2,477 m high mountain in the Alps. It is located in the Dolomites, in the province of Belluno, and overlooks the Falzarego pass, facing the Tofana di Rozes and the Lagazuoi. The name refers to ancient local legends that made it the residence of a witch.

        The summit can be reached from the Museo d. Grande Guerra in about 1 hour through tunnels and trenches of the 1st World War. Unfortunately, we did not find the scores over the northeast ridge and so we chose the little steep path right back.

              Impressive tour on the horrors of World War I in the Dolomites, plus the scenic view of the Marmolada, Sellaronda and Tofana, more than worth it.

              The book "Dance of Death on the Col di Lana - Battle for the Blood Mountain of the Dolomites in the First World War" (Erik Durschmid, 2017) is highly recommended and well worth reading.
