Here you cycle along a piece of Austrian-Italian history. The rocky towers of the Little Lagazuoi were the scene of the mountain warfare between Austria and Italy during the First World War. The Austrians had set up positions in the upper areas of the rock face, while the Italians drove tunnels into the mountain below and finally blew up the Austrian positions. Today a memorial at the top of the pass commemorates the battles.

The Passo di Falzarego (2,105 meters) connects Andráz in the Cordevole valley with the well-known winter sports resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the eastern Dolomites. There is also a connection to Passo di Valparola. The descent to Cortina is great fun. On 16 kilometers you destroy 900 meters of altitude. Curves, serpentines and high-speed sections alternate happily, and the landscape, if you can take your eyes off the road, is sensational.

Very beautiful Dolomite pass full of history, the First World War raged here and you can feel it with every step you take. The gradients to the top of the pass are quite mild and pleasant to drive on all three sides. The short but crisp ramp further to the Valparola Pass is a bit steep but quite short and therefore easy to master. And surrounded by such scenery, exertion is just a pleasant side issue.
