Der Piazza Grande hat es mit Sicherheit verdient, als eigenes Highlight präsentiert zu werden. Er ist der zentrale Platz voller Geschichte der neueckigen Stadt Palmanova. Er lädt mit seinen Cafés und Restaurants zum Verweilen ein.

Piazza Grande is the main square of Palmanova, and is located in the center of the city. It has a hexagonal shape and its construction dates back to 1593 when the Venetians decided to build a real fortress city to defend themselves from looting to avert the attacks of the Ottomans. During the First World War it became a sorting and supply center for troops. The square is surrounded by a stream of water that flows perfectly on all sides as a sign of safety and protection from attacks by dark and evil forces. The merit of this perfect geometry is to be attributed to the skill of the expert military architects of the Fortifications Office of Venice who were led by the Superintendent Giulio Savorgnan. From the square you can visit all the most beautiful palaces of Palmanova, a fortress city also known as a starry city. The most important building is undoubtedly the Dogal Cathedral (dedicated to the Most Holy Redeemer). Piazza Grande is enhanced by 11 statues placed at the entrance of each road that leads to the center of Palmanova and represent the General Superintendents. At the center of the square there is a base in Istrian stone on which the High Standard of Palmanova stands. [1] A square full of history that deserves to be visited.
