The Müllersches Volksbad (actually: Müller'sches Volksbad) is an indoor swimming pool with a sauna, which is operated by the Stadtwerke München (SWM). When it was completed in 1901, the neo-baroque Art Nouveau building was the largest and most expensive swimming pool in the world and the city's first public indoor pool. The construction goes back to a donation by the Munich engineer Karl Müller to the city of Munich, combined with the requirement to build a bath for the "poor people". The building was designed by Carl Hocheder. With its architecture and interior design, the bath is one of the most beautiful bathhouses in Europe.

One of the few Art Nouveau pools that has been preserved in its original form. The changing rooms with their historic lockers are spectacular. There are two indoor swimming pools that can be used by anyone, regardless of gender. However, swimming is different from a modern sports pool: the pool has a sloping floor that hardly allows for proper swimming in the area of the magnificent entrance steps; in today's terms, the high pool edges with overflow channels also take some getting used to. However, the pool is an absolute visual and historical highlight, which we were very happy to discover and use after a long train journey. A great welcome in Munich.
