    Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin
    The Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz was created in 1890 during a founding meeting of the Freie Volksbühne association. The Neue Freie Volksbühne split off from it temporarily in 1892, and thanks to the strong growth from 1902 it received enough funds to erect its own building. Today's theater is on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in the Mitte district. It was built not far from the Victoria Theater, which was demolished in 1891. It was built before the First World War as a joint house for the Freie Volksbühne, which was later reunited, and the Neue Freie Volksbühne and existed as such until May 17, 1933 under the name Volksbühne Theater am Bülowplatz. After the war, the building was badly damaged and only reopened in 1954. During this time there were other venues that temporarily served as playgrounds for the Volksbühne Berlin Ost. Until it was renamed again in 1979, the venue was called the Volksbühne am Luxemburgplatz after the square in the Scheunenviertel called Luxemburgplatz from 1947 to 1969. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Frank Castorf took over and his term of office ended in 2017. His successor, Chris Dercon, resigned in April 2018, and Klaus Dörr then managed the house on an interim basis. From 2018 to 2021 it was officially called Volksbühne Berlin. Since René Pollesch took over as artistic director from the 2021/22 season, it has borne its previous name again. The original auditorium had three tiers with 1968 seats. In the 1960s, their number was reduced to the current 800.

          The Babylon is a cinema in Berlin's Mitte district, which is part of a listed building complex on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz opposite the Volksbühne. The building was erected in 1928/29 according to plans by the architect Hans Poelzig and is considered an exemplary work in his creative period of New Objectivity. In 1948 the house was extensively remodeled and was then used in the GDR as a special interest cinema. After the cinema hall had to be closed in 1993 due to the danger of collapsing, it was renovated from 1999 to 2001 and reconstructed as a monument. The reconstruction was awarded the "German Prize for Monument Protection" in 2002.
