The People's Military Historical Museum Complex of the Great Patriotic War "Sambek Heights" was created on the initiative of veterans and public organizations with the support of the Governor of the Rostov Region V.Yu. Golubev.
The territory of the complex occupies almost 14 hectares. The architectural and design solution, thanks to the combination of memorial, museum objects and the landscape and park zone, forms a space conducive to preserving the memory of the war and comfortable for relaxation.
The majestic Monument of Glory (authors: E.S. Shamilov - sculptor, V.I. Grigor and I.V. Grigor - architects), established in 1980 in honor of the liberation of the Rostov region and the city of Taganrog, towers over the entire complex.
The building of the military history museum houses the exposition "Don in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945". The interactive platform "Breakthrough", where you can get acquainted with examples of fortifications and weapons of the warring parties, tells about the heavy battles of August 1943.
On the "Alley of Memory" the soldiers of the Red Army, raised by the Don search detachments, found their resting place. Monument to a soldier by D.A. Stritovich amazes with the exact transfer of mood and detailed drawing. The chapel in honor of the Resurrection of Christ complements the memorial part of the complex. The height of the People's Memory with the sculptural composition "Cranes", made by S. N. Oleshnya, symbolizes the unforgettable feat of the generation of winners. In addition, an amphitheater for 300 seats and an Information and Exhibition Center with two halls are located on the territory of the complex.
