        An idyllic mountain lake in the Spiegeltal. It was created in 1672 using the old pond construction method. Its task was to provide service water to drive the water wheels in the ore mines of the Spiegeltaler Zug. The pond was also used to raft logs towards the innermost.

                  The dam was built as an earthwork, meaning it was made of earth and rock. This dam fill material was extracted locally and is predominantly stony. The lining consists of turf and runs along the waterside slope. It is a pond of the "old construction" type.

                  The pond originally carried its water to the mines near Wildemann, where it served as a catchment water.

                  Due to its unusually large catchment area, the Lower Spiegeltal Pond has two flood relief structures (outflows), both of similar size. With a storage capacity of 156,000 m³ and a dam height of 10.90 m, the pond constitutes a reservoir according to the Lower Saxony Water Act. The wooden hut at the right end of the dam is merely a tool shed.

                  Around 1900, part of the inflow could still be diverted past the pond via the Ernst-August-Draben, which runs parallel to the southern shore.
