The Vanha kauppahalli (Swedish Gamla Saluhallen, German Old Market Hall) is the first and oldest market and department store in Helsinki.

The Vanha kauppahalli was opened in 1888. The building was designed by Gustaf Nystrom. Today the hall is also a popular tourist attraction. The market hall contains stalls from around 120 retailers. According to the statute, meat products, eggs, butter, cheese and vegetable products may be sold. At the turn of the century, part of the fish trade was also transferred to the hall. Since 1984 there have also been bistro and restaurant businesses in the market hall. The Vanha kauppahalli is a listed building. From 1998 to 1999 the building was completely renovated.

You will definitely pass by the Helsinki Market Square. It is located in the heart of the city right by the harbor and is within walking distance of most Helsinki attractions.

The market has food stalls, traditional handicrafts and plenty of souvenirs for the cruise ship guests that pass through Helsinki every day.

Next to the market is the Old Market Hall, which also has many delicious food stalls.

Beautiful market hall with a historic flair, where a wide variety of goods are offered. From local dishes to Asian soups, from sweets to alcoholic beverages - you can find basically everything your (tourist) heart desires from the various vendors. Depending on the time of day, it can get quite busy, which can affect the atmosphere a little.
As a typical tourist magnet, the prices there are a little above average.
