Costs entry, but it is asked again and again to silence and made sure that headgear be removed. Otherwise, it is a church and I just realize that churches are a good place to rest and the architecture of this church is special - just let it go and take in the whole.

Very modern, unique rock-fused church with an impressive copper roof. We were lucky and were able to attend a small concert by a singing group from the Norwegian Hammerfest. We got there at the same time and had a nice chat with a very friendly member of the group. Then he invited us to the little concert.

Entrance fee 4€. It's nice and warm inside.
Incidentally, the church was not blasted into the rock, but rather drilled and broken out. You can still see the drill marks.
Opened in 1969 and has been one of Helsinki's top attractions ever since.

The rock church was integrated into an existing rock by Finnish architects (twins). The church is dedicated to the Evangelical-Lutheran parish, so it's not so full of pomp... It's a good feeling to go there and it's well worth seeing. Entry in 2022 €5.00/adult.

The Rock Church (Temppeliaukion Kirkko in Finnish) was carved into the rock in 1969 and designed by the brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen in the Expressionist style and is considered an extraordinary example of Finnish architecture in the 1960s.
From the outside the church makes a rather unspectacular impression; as we know, there are many large rocks in Helsinki, but very few have a large door that leads into the rock. Viewed from the front, you have no idea how big and open and, above all, how bright it is inside the rock. When you enter through the door, you will first find a short, dark corridor that will lead you into the actual church interior. The walls made of bare rock make it reminiscent of a large cave. Nevertheless, the interior of the church is a lot brighter than you are used to in most classic churches. 180 long, narrow windows leading to the dome provide plenty of daylight. The bare rocks shine with the ceiling made of polished copper and the shimmering gold organ pipes, a particularly beautiful sight in bright sunshine.
