    It is the Compostela temple with the oldest roots. According to tradition, the hermit Paio lived there, discoverer of the relics of the Apostle, to which he was led by heavenly lights. The early medieval chapel was destroyed by Almanzor and rebuilt by Diego Xelmírez in the 12th century. In fact, the Calixtino Codex already mentions it among the ten churches that Compostela had at that time.
    Only the cover is Romanesque. The polychrome tympanum depicting the Adoration of the Magi in relief was made in 1316; the tower and the rest of the current church are the work of Simón Rodríguez, who considerably enlarged the enclosure in the 18th century and built a new bell tower with an invoice that would be widely imitated in Galicia in later years.
