The Galgenberg nature reserve is located north of (and partly on) the former mining site of Heusden-Zolder. The Galgenberg owes its name to the former custom of hanging criminals on high places – clearly visible! Fortunately, this is no longer the case and you can enjoy the wooded heathland.

Located in the southwestern corner of Heusden-Zolder, near the hamlet of Bolderberg, you can explore the Galgenberg estate forest. Those who enjoy a bit of terrain will find plenty to enjoy on this easternmost Diestian hill.
The Galgenberg takes its name from the location of the gallows used to hang criminals. The woods are freely accessible to hikers, but due to their vulnerability to erosion, they are not open to cyclists or mountain bikers.
The woods are accessible via signposted walks. On some days, you will have to put up with some noise from the nearby circuit.
