The Long Pond has been part of a pond landscape originally created for city defense and fish farming to the west of the historic old town since the early history of the park. Of the former five ponds, only the large swan pond and the long (r) pond have been preserved. Accordingly, the Long Pond was given due consideration when the park was designed in the 19th century.

The Lange Teich is flanked on both sides by a dense stock of trees, which, due to the light conditions, leans picturesquely over the water surface. On the southern side of the pond, an open water edge with some reed growth merges into an open meadow area. A park path runs east of the Long Pond, not far from the shore. A dam embankment follows directly on the west side. The main path runs around the large swan pond on the higher-lying dam head, which is known as the Crataegus dam due to the dense avenue tree planting with hawthorn.
