Leodegar, a distinguished Frankish cleric and Bishop of Autun, was executed in 677. He is the patron of the Steinfeld Church. Much indicates that the naming of the Steinfeld Church goes back to the 7th or 8th century.

The Steinfelder Church was built before 1250 and largely destroyed in the war years 1944/45. The church was rebuilt in 1949 and the interior was expanded in 1950. Both with the active participation of the local craft businesses and supported by the "admirable sacrifice of the hardworking parishioners", as the local priest at the time, Rev. Braun writes. The Christmas mass in 1950 was the first service in the rebuilt church. On Corpus Christi day in 1951, Bishop Wendel consecrated the church and altar in honor of St. Leodegar.
The church was extensively renovated in 2010/11, and the interior was renovated only a short time later in 2015/16. During this work, two children's graves from Carolingian (?) Times were found and uncovered in the entrance area under the floor. The site was covered with a glass plate and gives a view of the grave site.
