The church in honor of Our Lady as a pilgrim was built between 1778 and 1794 and is therefore part of the transition from Baroque to Classicism. Its floor plan is in the shape of a shell within a Greek cross.
In the church there is a sculpture of Our Lady as a pilgrim or 'Virgen de A Peregrina' (19th century), who is the patron saint of the province of Pontevedra and at the same time of the Portuguese Way of St. James.

The Sanctuary of the Peregrina was built in 1778, in the historic center of Pontevedra, in the Plaza de la Peregrina. It was declared a historical-artistic monument in 1982 and mixes late baroque with neoclassical forms, such as its main altarpiece, erected in 1789. It is one of the most symbolic and relevant buildings in the city and is dedicated to the Virgin who, according to tradition, guided pilgrims from Baiona to Santiago.
