The central meeting point is the city's market square: the Torvet, about halfway
along the shopping street. A large square, in the center of which stands the bronze statue of King Christian IX
on horseback. The tourist information office is also located here in the former prison building.

The Torvet often hosts events in the summer, including flea markets, weekly markets, and free music events such as the Esbjerg Festival.

In winter, the market square transforms into an ice rink.

The Torvegade, which bears the same name, branches off from the Torvet, ending westward
in front of the Esbjerg Music Hall, designed by architect Jørn Utzon.
