The functioning watermill with sawmill is today largely preserved in its condition of 1860 or 1930 and is located on the Kirnitzsch about 3km from Hinterhermsdorf, in the middle of the forest (in the so-called National Park Saxon Switzerland), without connection to the public electricity, water , and sewage network.

The hydropower plant has a gradient of 3.60 m and a mean water volume of 450 l / s (fluctuation of 1000 l / s), which corresponds to an average power of about 20 hp or 15 kW.

The mill was already at the end of the 19th century. a reaction turbine and 2 water wheels, one for the grinding mill and one for the sawmill. After the grinding mill was shut down in 1922, only one wheel was left to drive the saw gate, the woodworking machines and the generator. In 1968, the dilapidated wheel was replaced by an idiosyncratic tube turbine, which is now back in operation. The two waterwheel shafts are still there.
