A small, romantic gorge forms the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. The ferry boats are moved by the ferrymen by hand and oars silently. They also tell something about history and nature. The route is almost 700 meters long and takes a good half hour on the water. You can then continue hiking or return by boat. It takes about 45 minutes to walk from the signposted car park. A great hike!

The boat ride on the upper lock has been around since 1879. You can ride in both directions. The boat trip starts at the boat station. In summer it happens that you have to wait a bit. At the boat station there is a small snack to shorten the waiting time. The boat ride is almost a kilometer long and ends at the dam wall.
The barrage in the Kirnitzsch used to provide water for rafting. In the 1960s, people said goodbye to rafting and the upper lock was only used for boat trips. Until the beginning of the 1990s, the lowering was used in autumn to make the Kirnitzsch a little wilder and to go kayaking on it. By draining, the sand deposits were washed away from the dammed area and there was always enough depth for the barges. Since the founding of the national park, this is no longer allowed and the boat trip is increasingly faced with the problem of silting up at the boat station.

The boat tour through the Kirnitzschklamm is fantastically beautiful! The landscape is mystical and magical, there were not many hikers on a Sunday morning today. The subsequent hiking trail leads through unspoilt nature and is well worth a visit
