The magnificent half-timbered house on the market square is perhaps one of the most beautiful houses in the old town. The bread and dance house has a long tradition and the small shops on the ground floor are well worth seeing. The Storch family lives upstairs on the roof.

The Bread and Dance House in Nördlingen is a significant historic building, built in its current form between 1442 and 1444. It originally served as a trade fair hall for cloth merchants, who displayed their wares on the first floor during the Whitsun fairs. A bridge connected the building to the neighboring Metzig, creating a large, contiguous sales area.

Outside of trade fair times, the upper floor was transformed into a ballroom where wealthy Nördlingen families celebrated weddings and lavish parties. The ground floor was reserved for bakers, who sold their baked goods there—hence the name "Bread and Dance House."

Between 1442 and 1444 the house was built in its current form. During trade fairs, it is connected to the neighboring "Metzig" on the 1st floor by a bridge, creating a large, connected sales area for the cloth merchants. Outside the fair times, the noble families celebrate their parties there. The ground floor with its small shops is reserved for bakers. Hence the name bread and dance house.
A major renovation takes place in 1829/30. The main entrance will be moved to the broad side and the canopies over the shops will be removed. The house was used as a school building from 1830, the preparatory school was relocated to the building in 1877, and the royal high school in 1897/98. Since the 1920s, it has been the seat of administration next to the town hall and the pawnshop.

In 1829/30, a major renovation took place. The main entrance was moved to the wide side and the canopies above the shops were removed. The house was used as a school from 1830 onwards, in 1877 the preparatory school was moved into the building, and in 1897/98 the royal progymnasium was also moved into it. Since the 1920s, it has been the seat of the administration alongside the town hall and pawn shop.
