    The picturesque heath village of Wilsede is closed to motor vehicles and can only be reached on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage. There are several old farms here and you can learn a lot about life in the Lüneburg Heath in the “Dat Ole Hus” museum. There are several inns where you can eat and drink.

      A popular tourist magnet during the season.

      Lots of cobblestones. Closed to motor vehicles. Heide Express in the season, can be reached on foot or by bike with carriages.

      A few bars, knick-knack shops, etc. With its old thatched houses and sheep pens as well as the heath museum "Dat ole Huus", the historic place is like a living museum village.

      The Wilseder Berg directly near Wilsede is the highest elevation in the northwest German lowlands at 169.2 m.

            Wilsede is a pretty little village in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath. Various paths lead from Wilsede through the Lüneburg Heath, including to Undeloh, Niederhaverbeck or up (and over) the Wilseder Berg.

            A very beautiful area for cycling or hiking.

            During the heather blooming season, however, there are a lot of people here on foot, so it can be difficult to get ahead by bike. Outside of the season, there is not so much going on, and cycling is much more relaxed. However, it is of course most beautiful here during the heather blooming season (approx. early/mid August to mid September). I think it is most beautiful at sunrise or sunset, when there are nowhere near as many people out and about on the heath as during the day.

              Wilsede was first mentioned in 1287. In the 16th century there were four farmhouses here, and in the 20th century a few more were added and restored. These include the heath museum "Dat ole Huus", which is well worth seeing, two restaurants, the "Milchhalle", the Emhoff and thatched sheep pens. Dat ole Huus is considered one of the oldest open-air museums in Germany.

                A heathland idyll for postcards! I didn't see a mailbox, but I did see a view of three (!) scallops. You can get the stamp at the "Milchhalle," which also offers delicious food and very pleasant conversations with other guests.
