Here, on the Outer Alster, you'll find what is probably the most beautiful cycle path in the world. Here, too, cyclists have the right of way. The Outer Alster was the part of the lake that was "outside" the city walls and was built in 1625. In 1804, the city walls and ramparts were demolished and converted into parks, but the spatial separation between the two lakes was retained. The Outer Alster has an area of 1.64 square kilometers (164 hectares) and is on average only about 2.5 meters deep. There are several consular offices on the banks of the Alster and on Harvestehuder Weg on the west bank, such as the US Consulate General. Due to its proximity to the city center and its recreational qualities, the Outer Alster is home to a number of hotels: Among others, the five-star superior Hotel Atlantic is located on the southeastern bay of the Outer Alster, and the Fontenay on the west bank.

Deutsche Bahn's DB RAD+ app is now available on the way to the train station. The points collected from this app can be redeemed at participating retailers and service providers in the vicinity of the train station. The journeys are recorded anonymously and conclusions can be drawn about bicycle usage. The aim is to incentivize cycling as a feeder to public transport.

Hamburg is really not a paradise for cyclists. This bicycle road is an exception. Here you can cycle relatively well and there are no traffic lights. Only from the American consulate and from there to the Kennedy Bridge does it get tight.

The Outer Alster in the center of Hamburg is probably the most popular place in the Hanseatic city for cyclists, walkers and joggers. A tour is very varied and offers lots of greenery, stylish villas and beautiful views.
Green meadows, old trees, art objects along the way and the view of the extensive Outer Alster make you forget the hustle and bustle of the city, even though there is a lot of hustle and bustle here on nice days.
The bicycle road is wide, smooth, easy to ride and offers space for many cyclists. Concentration is still required because things are often fast and turbulent here.

I recommend just stopping every now and then, taking a short break and enjoying the great views of the Alster.
It's really worth it, if not here, then where and you'll drive on much more relaxed afterwards.

On the hiking trail that leads directly along the western bank of the Outer Alster,
Cycling is justifiably not allowed because there are simply too many "unfocused" walkers out and about.
A good and frequently used alternative is the wide bicycle street.
There are quite a lot of cyclists, especially fast ones, so you have to pay attention and concentrate.

From the town hall, the route first leads to the Jungfernstieg. This route is linked to cycle routes 1 and 2 via the Jungfernstieg - Gänsemarkt - Valentinskamp connection. It continues along the Inner Alster via the Neuen Jungfernstieg to the Outer Alster. There a bicycle road leads along the edge of the Alster foothills past Harvestehude to the Krugkupplung Bridge. From here the Outer Alster is left and the route leads along the towpath, also a bicycle road, parallel to the course of the Alster to Winterhude. Via the Bebelallee it goes on to Alsterdorf and from there via the Rathenaustraße parallel to the course of the Alster to Fuhlsbüttel, directly to the district center on Erdkampsweg. Always in the immediate vicinity of the U1 underground line, the route then continues to Langenhorn, where it ends at the Ochsenzoll underground station.
