The tower was built in 1442. The clock in the tower has the right to strike first in Lucerne and therefore strikes one minute earlier than all other clocks in Lucerne.
The tower is freely accessible from April 1st to November 1st.

The Musegg Wall is the second, outer ring of fortifications on the north side of the city. Ten towers were originally part of the fortifications. Today nine still exist. Two towers were designed as gate towers.

In 1860 the outer Weggistor and 40m of the Musegg Wall were demolished. Today it is preserved over a length of 870 m and is a national monument under the protection of the Swiss Confederation.

The Musegg Wall with its imposing towers, some of which can be walked on, is the highlight of Lucerne's old town, along with the Kappel Bridge and numerous other historical beauties. The view of the city and the surrounding area is impressive.

Impress its exterior, impressive its interior. As the name suggests, it's all about time. The bell in the top of the tower strikes exactly 1 minute earlier than its conspecifics down in town. A real highlight in the middle of the old Musegg wall.

The Musegg Wall is the medieval landmark of Lucerne with its nine towers: Nölli Tower, Männli Tower, Luegisland, Watch Tower, Zyt Tower, Schirmer Tower, Powder Tower, Allenwinden Tower and Dächli Tower.
The city fortifications in Lucerne were built in the 13th century. An inner and an outer ring, in the form of a wall with a total of 30 towers, secured the city.
The wall is a popular attraction for visitors. Today, it is still 870m long, around 9m high and 1.5m wide, making it the longest city wall preserved in one piece in Switzerland and providing a habitat for a variety of animal species.
The association for the preservation of the Musegg Wall was founded in 2002 and the foundation in 2003. The restoration took a full 12 years and was completed in 2015.

A special feature is that the Zytturm clock is allowed to strike the hour exactly one minute before all other clocks in Lucerne. The Zytturm houses the oldest clock mechanism in Central Switzerland.
