The concrete girder bridge was rebuilt in 1961 on the old pile foundation of the previous bridge. The structure is adorned with ornate wrought iron railings and cast iron chandeliers above the roadway.
The pier was extensively refurbished and strengthened in 2014.

The approx. 90m long Rathaussteg connects the left bank of the Reuss (Lucerne City Theatre) with the right bank of the Reuss (stairs in the town hall). The footbridge was built in 1961 (replacing an iron truss bridge from 1899) and renovated in 2014.
