Experience La Morra in Piedmont
La Morra is a medieval wine village in the UNESCO area. You drive zigzagging up the mountain past fields full of vines in the Langhe to this lovely village. The view is breathtaking. The best wineries and vineyards are located around the beautiful village. However, too many wineries to visit in one trip. To illustrate, even Julius Ceaser would have stopped here on his journey from France to taste the divine grape juice of La Morra. So for a first-class box of wine, go here.
La Morra is derived from the word Mura, which means fence. The Benedictine monks used to use the area to keep animals. These city walls have been demolished over the centuries. However, remains are still visible. The noble Falletti family is one of the most influential families of the Langhe. In 1340 they bought the village from the King of Naples. On Via XX Settembre you will find Palazzo Falletti-Corder. Recognizable by the family coat of arms. The first Barolo is said to have been produced in the cellars of this impressive building. About 160 years ago, two lovers from this family planted a cedar tree on Collina (hill) Falletti, between the vineyards. As a symbol of their love that would live on in this way for generations to come.
