In the Ternell Nature Park Center you can inquire whether and which hiking trails in the High Fens area may be closed. This is important to know, for example, if there is a risk of fire in spring or autumn due to prolonged drought.

Came in twice, in the morning there was a very delicious breakfast with homemade bread, scrambled eggs, fried vegetables, sausage, cheese, etc. All products exclusively from the region. Only to recommend. In the afternoon there was delicious apple pie. 🤤

Haus Ternell was a former forestry and customs house and is nowadays a nature information center belonging to Eupen on the edge of the Hautes Fagnes. House Ternell is a starting point for hikes in the High Fens. The information center exhibits local rocks, minerals and animal preparations. In the immediate vicinity is a diner with a large garden.

In and around the Ternell house, more is offered than you might think.
On the one hand, the house is self-sufficient in energy, on the other hand, there are many other things on offer besides the cafe / restaurant, e.g. nature animations especially for kids, training in wild herbs and beekeeping and much more. In the winter months you can also rent cross-country skis and choose from 3 different trails.

The nature center is the ideal starting point for hikes to the Hohe Venn or to the Wesertalsperre. In addition to the tourist information, you will find a small museum, a children's playground, a herb garden and the "Werner Thoma Hütte", which can be rented for company or family celebrations.
Don't forget the restaurant "Ternell's"!
Here the guest is treated to fresh and regional products!
We had a hearty breakfast here before our hike. The bread made especially for Ternell's was to die for! Simply delicious!

Lots of information about the high fens, high moor, tourist information, events, covered wagon rides etc.

Opening hours:
Monday to Friday:
10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m. and 1.00 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Sat, Sun and public holidays:
10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Right next to the nature center is a restaurant (day off: Monday) that is recommended for a stop.

In 1773, the Monschau cloth manufacturer Wilhelm Scheibler built a hunting lodge here on the 505 meter high hilltop. Later the rangers of the area lived on "Ternell". The name of the house goes back to the location. In field name research, "Nell" means something like hill or elevation and "ter" is a ninth-century gender noun and can be translated as "the". “Ternell” therefore stands for “the hill”. After the Second World War, the building was temporarily used as a customs post.
