The Budavári Palace (German Burgal, Turkish Budin Kalesi) is one of the most important cultural and tourist centers of Budapest, the former royal palace. As part of the Buda Castle District, it has been a World Heritage Site of Budapest since 1987.

The Gothic Royal Palace was built around 1300 and built until the end of the 14th century. During the great king Lajos, Sigismund and Matthias, the domes of the Hungarian rulers were enlarged and decorated. From 1541, when the Ottomans occupied the building, the condition of the palace deteriorated, and during the siege and restoration of 1686, serious damage was done to both the castle and the buildings of the castle district. During the restoration, the Baroque temples had prevailed, but the parts of the Gothic and Renaissance style have been preserved. In 1715, the palace was extended by a smaller baroque palace. At the end of the 19th century Miklós Ybl and Alajos Hauszmann joined a rear wing that doubled the grounds of the castle. The façade of the Maria Theresa wing opposite the Danube has been enlarged to include the Baroque and Neo-Baroque dome. The so - called Krisztinavárosi wing, decorated with Art Nouveau elements, has been housed in the Palais building since 1985. The National Library Széchényi is located, and the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum are located in the palace.
