The hall church was built on the site of a previous building dating back to the Middle Ages, which burned down in 1856. The new building was built in the neo-Romanesque style between 1859 and 1871. The masonry was made of slate rubble and edged with brick. The church tower is to the west of the ship and has a square floor plan. The sound arcades of the tower have set sandstone columns and are coupled in a round arch style. The portal is located on the north side of the nave and is framed by a baroque portal aedicula with two laterally arranged columns that has been preserved from the previous building. There is an apsidal closure to the east.

Renovation work took place in the 1930s and 1970s. Due to a shortage of materials, sky-blue asbestos shingles were used for roofing in the 1970s. From 2010 the roof was then re-covered with black clay tiles.

The interior of the church is covered by a carved and painted beam ceiling. There is a singing and organ gallery in the shape of a horseshoe with coffered parapets. The equipment of the church goes back to the construction time. The organ was created by Carl Voigt from Halberstadt.

In the church is the incised tombstone of the last Catholic clergyman in the previous building, who died in 1523.
