The present-day market place was the location of the town hall of the city of Gemünden, built at the end of the 16th century. The Renaissance building was destroyed during the Second World War and not rebuilt. A memorial stone on the former site is reminiscent of the historic building.

Market Square
Until 1945, the old town hall stood in the middle of the market square. Today, a memorial stone commemorates the former Julius Echter building. The market fountain was created as part of the renovation of the old town. The fountain's enclosure shows the coats of arms of the incorporated Gemünden districts, and the central column is decorated with guild symbols.
