Here, right next to the Liliom in Augsburg, there is a very unusual "traffic intersection," namely a "water intersection"...

At this point, the Stadtbach and the Innere Stadtgraben intersect, and to prevent the two waterways (originally one stream carried drinking water, the other industrial water) from mixing, this trick was used decades ago. Know how... :-) This cast-iron canal bridge is also called the "Zirbelnuss Canal Bridge" after the Augsburg city coat of arms featuring the pine cone on the side. It was designed by Carl August Reichenbach. It is part of the Lower Fountain Tower listed as a historical monument, which is registered in the Bavarian Register of Historic Monuments. The Lower Fountain Works complex near today's Liliom cinema consists of the Lower Fountain Tower, the pump house, and the water supply via the Zirbelnuss Canal Bridge. It is considered Augsburg's second-largest and second-oldest waterworks (after the facility at the Rotes Tor), and thus also the second-oldest in Germany and Central Europe.
