If you like it comfortable, you can take the funicular from Loschwitz up to the slopes of the Elbe. It's definitely an experience.

From the mountain station of the funicular railway built in 1894-95 you go down into the valley. The rail-bound, single-track mountain railway covers a distance of 547 meters, passing through two tunnels, crossing a viaduct and overcoming a height difference of 95 meters. Before we do that, we let our gaze wander over the square. We see the extravagant Villa San Remo, a villa built in 1885 in the Neo-Renaissance style, which is now a listed building. Directly opposite the mountain station of the funicular is the Luisenhof, also known as the “Balcony of Dresden”. When the terraces are open, all visitors can enjoy a fantastic view over the city and the Elbe valley!

Once we have reached the upper station of the funicular, we can enjoy the view over the city and the Elbe valley from the terrace of the Luisenhof restaurant opposite when it is open. It is not without reason that the Luisenhof is also called the “Balcony of Dresden”.

At the end of the street (Bergbahnstraße 12) there is also Villa San Remo. The extravagant villa building was built in 1885 in the Neo-Renaissance style and is a listed building. Between 1938 and 1945 it was the residence of the German-American business family Noble, developers of the “Praktiflex” SLR camera.
