With the construction of the "Sächsischer Hof", which began in 1798 and was completed in 1802, the accommodation situation in the town of Meiningen entered a new phase. The Sächsischer Hof soon surpassed all other inns and was soon considered the best lodging house far and wide. In 1802 it was fully prepared as a guest house for the domains to accommodate strangers, although not to the extent and size that it had had until the end of the last century. The north-eastern extension was only added in the 1920s and was initially intended to be a new casino, which was ceremoniously inaugurated as such on June 12, 1826. In April 1843, the ducal family sold the Sächsischer Hof to the Princes of Thurn and Taxis, who moved the local post office to the southern part of the building. The post office had to be housed in the rear area of the property so as not to disturb the noble character of the house.

Before the construction of the court theater, which opened on December 17, 1831, performances were held in the Saxon Court, in addition to the castle and the riding school. The chronicle tells us that in 1808 an amateur company performed in the hall of the same, that in July 1809 the Quandt Actors' Company and in the spring of 1821 the Gerlach Actors' Company gave performances to great acclaim.

With the renovation in 1900, the Saxon Court took on its current appearance. The court architect Fritze added a 2nd and 3rd floor to the building and gave it the characteristic appearance with the Franconian half-timbering, the richly decorated balconies and the romantic pointed towers.

The solewerk Hotel Sächsischer Hof is a traditional hotel in the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen.

It is the oldest hotel in the city, operating with only a few interruptions.

The building is a listed building.

The Sächsischer Hof is located in the middle of the city center between the old town and the English Garden at the beginning of the pedestrian zone and the main shopping street Georgstraße.

The train station, bus station and the Meiningen State Theater are just a few hundred meters away.

From Eisenach, you can reach it via the B 19 and from Erfurt and Schweinfurt, via the Meiningen-Nord junction of the A 71, both directly into the city center.
