The library pavilion in the Berggarten was built in the early 19th century by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves in the style of French classicism at the beginning of his architectural work in Hanover. The building originally designed by Laves as a "garden master's apartment" for the Wendland family of gardeners later served as the royal garden library, which in turn arose from Johann Christoph Wendland's library and herbarium and was set up in the rotunda from 1852 to 1936. In 2007 parts of the library were bought back for the city of Hanover. Today the building is used for the administration of the Herrenhausen Gardens.
