The open round temple with 12 Ionic columns was built at the end of the 18th century near today's Waterlooplatz and moved to the Georgengarten in 1934/35. This place on the small peninsula with its reflections in the pond looks as if it had been specially created for the temple.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz is considered the most important polymath of the Baroque period and advised Electress Sophie on the design of the Great Garden. His bust made of Carrara marble, which used to stand in the Leibniz Temple, is now in the Hannover Technology Center (TCH). A copy has been the center of the Leibniz Temple in the Georgengarten since 2010.
