Gleichenstein Castle (formerly also Velseck or Felseck) is located 3 km west of waxedt in the Eichsfeld district.
Velsecke Castle was first mentioned in 1180. In 1234 it was destroyed.
From 1241 to 1246 it was rebuilt as a replacement under the name Gleichenstein, presumably by Heinrich I von Gleichen.

The castle has been restored by Hanf-Gedöns GmbH since 2018.
The aim is to make the entire castle complex accessible to the public again.
In the future, Gleichenstein Castle will be the world's first hemp castle with a competence center for all things hemp.
A regional manufacturing and processing company is to be established with the brand "Eichsfelder Hanf".

Gleichenstein Castle is currently being renovated (October 2024) and is only open by appointment. If you want to plan a visit, you should definitely find out more in advance.
