The Gardepoort is located next to the Prinsenhof. The gate dates from 1639 and connects the Turfstraat with the Martinikerkhof. Due to the existing building, the gate was made at the request of Stadtholder Hendrik Casimir I, who at the time was located in the Prinsenhof. The building was the home of the equestrian guard. In the nineties a complex of modern houses was built on the corner of the Turfstraat. A school building previously stood on this site. This school was called the Prinsenhofschool and was a MULO / MAVO school.
