Oberbrunn is located on the Obermain at the foot of a slope at the end of a small side valley through which the village moat flows. The place is in the Banzgau, a long triangle between the Itz and the Main, south of the Banz monastery. The townscape is determined by the church of St. Laurentius on the eastern edge of the village.
In the 9th century Oberbrunn was probably first mentioned as "ce Brunnen" in the traditions of the Fulda monastery, which are based on a copy in the Codex Eberhardi from the 12th century, as being owned by Fulda servants. The next mention was possibly 1126, when Herolt "de Brunnen" was mentioned in a document as a witness for the Banz monastery. However, the evidence for the 9th century and 1126 is questionable. The first reliable evidence comes from 1221.

Oberbrunn is a district of Ebensfeld.
Right next to the St. Laurentius branch church there are two very beautiful half-timbered houses and on the opposite side of the street there is a bicycle station for self-repair.

The Catholic branch church of St. Laurentius was built as a baroque building between 1743 and 1750 according to plans by Johann Jakob Michael Küchel by the Staffelstein master mason Johann König and Johann Thomas Nißler. Due to a lack of money, construction work on the church, which was expensive for the small village, was temporarily suspended. It is a hall building with a retracted chancel, behind the front wall of which is the sacristy. The nave with the hall is divided into two window axes. The western gable end is designed as a single-tower façade. There is a cartouche with the crowned coat of arms of Prince Bishop Johann Philipp Anton von und zu Franckenstein above the entrance portal. Another twelve sights are included in the list of monuments in Oberbrunn.
