People in the area have always known where it's beautiful. The Celts use the Vitusberg as a sacrificial site before it became a hilltop settlement. You are standing on a historical site that used to be a castle stables and desolations in the Middle Ages. It is particularly worth visiting because of the foresight: you can enjoy the shade of the trees here, relax on the benches and let the wonderful view over the Main Valley work its magic on you. By the way: The Ansberg, as the survey is officially called, is popularly known as Veitsberg. That is why it has been called Ansberg (Veitsberg) since 2016. So don't be surprised if nobody can show you the Ansberg. Then just ask for the Vitusberg.

The St. Veit chapel (Vitus, he is one of the 14 helpers in need) dates from the middle of the 16th century and originally belonged to Ebensfeld, but was assigned to the newly founded parish of Kleukheim in 1625. In 1717-1719 the master mason A. Reinthaler built the existing building according to the plans of Johann Dientzenhofer. The builder was Prince-Bishop Franz Graf von Schönborn.

The St. Veit Chapel is embedded in an ancient linden grove, the only closed group of linden trees in Europe, and is a testament to an ancient settlement continuity in the Obermaing area.

At around 460 m, it is lower than the Staffelberg (539 m), but it is just as attractive. From the hiking car park near Dittersbrunn, it is about 2 km uphill.

(Also a good starting point for other hiking trails)

Up on the Ansberg (Veitsberg) you can enjoy a wonderful view of the beautiful Main Valley with a view of Bad Staffelstein and even as far as the Altenburg Bamberg.

It is framed by a 200 year old linden wreath that provides shade for hikers on hot days. (Bring a picnic blanket).

The linden wreath around the St. Vitus Chapel is the oldest closed linden wreath in Europe.

The St. Vitus Chapel is not always open.
