The current Terlinden castle is said to have its origins in the Roman settlement in Elewijt and Schiplaken. In the 12th century there was a Gothic castle, in 1500 a castle in Flemish Renaissance. The Terlinden family bought the domain in 1897 and built a new castle there. In September 1914 it was looted and burned by the Germans. After 1918 it was re-established and sold.

Schiplaken Castle is an old medieval castle site with a characteristic high court and farmyard. The 18th-century neoclassical castle was set on fire by the Germans in 1914 and was rebuilt in its original style after the war.
An information board on site explains the destruction during WWI in 1914.
