The Turmhofschacht was sunk from 1842 to 1857 as a main shaft for the Ascension Treasure Trove. In 1846 the Turmhofer Poch- und Setzherdreinigung for processing raw ore went into operation. Today the buildings, a relic of the drive shaft and the wheel room with the water wheel for the former wet stamping mill are still preserved.

The most notable and still largely preserved mining facility in Freiberg, also of great landscaping importance, the main shaft is clearly visible at the eastern entrance to the city, significant in terms of mining history and local history (see also Am Maßschacht, Dresdner Straße, Hinter der Stockmühle, Thomas-Mann-Straße, etc .)
