                The bottom wall is 11 cubits thick. The tower, which is around 35 meters high today, has been documented since 1455. In 1515 it was raised and given a roof. Nine shooting hatches are arranged on each of the three floors, with larger hatches under the eaves for placing cannons. Since it was well placed to defend the city and nearby towers, it had the largest number of guns. In the many different enemy sieges after 1632 it was repaired in many ways.

Today only 8 towers and the Donatstor are preserved. The Donatstor was the oldest and only intact city gate. The name came from the Donatskirche, which was opposite. The gate was rebuilt in 1963 to preserve the romantic charm of the city wall.
