"The NSG "Werthauser Wardt" is located in the Rheinhauser Wardt near Bergheim in the dike foreland. A near-natural excavation water body and pasture floodplain forest, which are directly influenced by the water level of the Rhine, take up the majority of the area. The NSG has a typical floodplain biotope combination with standing water and alluvial forest and offers an excellent habitat for waterfowl. The extensive recreational use of the Rheinaue can lead to disturbances of resting birds. In the state-wide biotope network Rheinaue, it plays an important role as a stepping stone biotope for migrating birds. Suitable measures for the expansion of the alluvial forest and a further promotion of the natural flood dynamics belong to the main development goals."
