Brussels Park is located right between the Royal Palace and the Palace of the Nation, which houses the Federal Parliament of Belgium. The Warandepark used to be called ‘Royal Park’. It is the oldest park in the city and the first to be made public. Long ago, the Warandepark was built on the ruins of the park of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Governors of the Netherlands. Now you can find it between the Federal Parliament (Palace of the Nation) and the Royal Palace, symbols of power and royalty. This park was the scene of fierce fighting during the revolution of 1830.

Architect Guimard and the gardener Zimmer designed the park in neoclassical style. The large dock is centrally located. From there, wide paths, symmetrical alignments and perspectives start. You will find many statues from Greco-Roman mythology here. Also take a look at the Vauxhall, the Théâtre Royal du Parc, the Guinguette Royale and Kiosk Radio, a radio station with a bar where you can dance under the trees!

This park, which has long been known as the “Royal Park”, was the first public park in Brussels.
This large quadrangular park with many trees extends between the Federal Parliament and the Royal Palace.
The wide lanes and symmetrical avenues sometimes lead to a surprising view. Along the walking paths we see hidden corners of greenery, a music kiosk, a theater, two fountains and some food stalls.
This now atmospheric and peaceful park was the scene of fierce fighting during the Revolution in 1830.

In the 70s of the 18th century, the entire Hofwijk (the current Koningsplein and the Warande) was transformed. Architect Guimard is drawing the plans for the new park. He is assisted by gardener Zinner who has been wrongly assigned the role of Guimard. The first fighting between the Belgian patriots and the Dutch troops took place in this park in 1830.
