Historically, the church is closely linked to the holy spring in Fossdalen. It was performed at the end of the 11th century and inaugurated as Vor Frue (in honor of the Virgin Mary). The tower dates from around the 15th century and the entrance is more recent. The altar panel dates from the 2nd half of the 16th century (and placed here in the church around 1750) and the pulpit dates from the beginning of the 17th century. There are also beautiful frescoes in the vaults. The baptismal font is decorated with Celtic motifs, which tell of the time of the breakthrough of the Christian churches in Denmark.

The lonely church, which almost disappears in the dune plantations that have grown on the former heather and dune areas in the last half century, was consecrated to the Mother of God in Catholic times, and the place was of great importance as the scene of the great markets that took place here.

The church, built around the 1200th century, consists of a Romanesque choir and nave with a late Gothic tower in the west and a new date portal on the south side of the nave.
The Romanesque building parts are built from well-hewn granite blocks on a sloping base, the south portal is still in use. It's rectangular, as is the walled north door, which is traced from the outside under a newer window.
The two Romanesque arched windows of the choir are still in use, one in each flank wall, and a monolithic lintel is built into the north wall of the nave, the two windows of which today have a cement frame.
Inside, the round choir arch with inclined collar stones is somewhat widened, which can be seen from the fact that the stones in the stopper were cut for a narrower arch.
A folded pointed arch window is walled in in the south wall and a similar one on the mezzanine in the north.
Except for the whitewashed spire, the church masonry is uncalcified, the roof trusses are covered with red roof tiles.
The tower was built in the late Gothic period from recycled square material from the west gable and monk stones as well as a not inconsiderable amount of boulders.
The lower room was given a vault that was later removed, the pointed arched tower arch to the nave is closed off by a half-timbered wall.
The entire upper part of the tower, which is provided with smooth gables facing east-west, is largely walled.
